This is a variety of lettuce with swollen, crispy and fleshy stalk, is widely grown for use sliced and stir-fried. This stem lettuce is an annual which tolerates a wide range of temperature. Highly aromatic! Vigorous growth. The plants are peeled and thinly sliced before being stir-fried. The hearts may also be eaten like small cos lettuce.

Best soil: Fertile, well-drained loose soil

How to plant: Sow seeds ¼” deep 1” apart in rows 12” apart. Thin to 4” to 6” apart

When to harvest: 45 days after sowing

How to harvest: Carefully pluck whole plant from the ground

Care: Keep soil moist. Weed regularly
