This is a biennial flavouring herb and vegetable, grown as an annual, which is used for decorative as a garnish for fish and meat dishes, sauces and stews. Chinese celery has a characteristic fragrant smell and is packed with vitamins A, B and C, as well as calcium, magnesium, sodium and essential fatty acids.

Best soil: Fertile, well-drained
How to plant: Seeds are usually sown in nursery and transplanting is subsequently carried out.
When to harvest: About six to eight weeks after transplanting.
How to harvest: Carefully lift up the plant or cut just above ground level.
Care: The seedlings should be permanently shaded to protect them from torrential rain and strong sunlight.
